That said, I completely understand why you might assume dermaplaning is “just shaving” — it’s a common myth. The truth is, dermaplaning is designed to remove vellus hair (peach fuzz) and the top layer of dead skin cells, leaving skin smoother, brighter, and better prepared for skincare and makeup.

Biologically, it’s impossible for dermaplaning to make hair grow back thicker or darker — hair growth is determined by genetics and hormones, not by cutting the hair at skin level. The only change some people notice is that the blunt edge of the hair can feel different as it grows in, but the hair itself hasn’t changed.
